New custom means increased profits for BSkyB   - Wednesday, May 20, 2009

Media giant BSkyB is reportedly enjoying increased profits, as its low cost broadband deals and packages has drawn in increasing numbers of new customers in the current financial climate.

In the ongoing financial climate, where many people are looking to save money on services and utilities, many have turned to broadband providers that are able to offer affordable deals and packages to suit their needs. BSkyB has been offering a range of packages and deals at low cost, and officials think that this has helped to increase customer levels and improve profits.

Recently released figures from BSkyB showed that profits had increased by thirteen percent. However, whilst this was seen as encouraging, particularly in the current financial and economic climate, officials from the firm have said that tough times may still lie ahead.

During the third quarter of last year the company saw its subscriber numbers increase by around eighty thousand, as more and more people tried to get cheaper deals on their broadband in order to ease their finances. In total the company now has 9.3 million subscribers, and fifteen percent of these have taken out bundle packages with television service, phone, and broadband.

The chief executive of BSkyB, Jeremy Darroch, said that the group was ‘progressing well’, but he added that the difficult financial climate and uncertain economic conditions meant that things were likely to be tough for the remainder of this year. He said: “We will stay focused on cost efficiency to allow us to invest sensibly in areas that drive long-term value for the business, such as high definition, with the objective of emerging stronger from the downturn.”
