Glasgow pubs banned from showing football   - Monday, February 11, 2008

Two pubs in Glasgow have been banned from showing televised Scottish premier league football matches in their pubs because they are using foreign satellite systems. The Arlington Bar and the Old Empire Bar were taken to court by the Scottish premier league.

The court went with the Scottish premier league and has subsequently banned the two pubs from showing any more football matches, and has banned them from using any foreign satellite decoders and other equipment which could be used to screen these matches via foreign TV channels.

This is not the first time that this sort of action has been taken by a football league, last year the Premier league prevent a pub in England from showing matches via a Greek satellite channel. Normally the football leagues do not forge ahead with legal action if the pub landlords undertake that they will not show the football matches via foreign satellite channels anymore.
