'Freeview for online' gets name   - Wednesday, May 14, 2008

BBC Worldwide, ITV, Channel 4 and Five have finally decided on the name for their proposed all-in-one broadband TV site - SeeSaw.

It looks increasingly unlikely that the service will make its suggested late summer launch date, with soom doom-mongers suggesting they may be as much as 12 months behind schedule as the parties wait for official approval and try to sort out their commercial differences.
Media Week reports that SeeSaw will have to win approval from the BBC Trust, but quotes the Trust saying it has yet to receive a 'fully developed proposal'.
The venture will also need a green light from the Office of Fair Trading, which is investigating whether SeeSaw threatens unfair competition to other commercial on-demand TV services.
And there's said to be disagreement over the business model: ITV wants it all to be free with ads; Channel 4 wants pay-per-view for its US shows; and the BBC is concerned about linking its shows with ads at all.
